As conversations around health-span vs lifespan and women’s health gain momentum, the need to foster education and awareness in all teens via the knowledge and tools to thrive and enable support becomes increasingly important.
From increased understanding of digital health, the “iceberg” of hormonal impacts across life, how to optimise lifelong health, and heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis, to neurodiversity and interpretation of health data reporting, empowering individuals with knowledge about these life impacts fosters well-being, reduces stigma, and promotes inclusive productive environments and long-term success across communities.
Educational leaders and schools have a unique opportunity to lead this movement by ensuring that young people receive the necessary education and support regarding their and others’ health. This initiative is crucial for enhancing health literacy and culture built on empathy, collaboration, and mutual respect, breaking down stigmas and opening the door for meaningful conversations.
Current generations in the workforce and beyond are often without adequate education and support systems for these issues and face significant challenges in lacking proper awareness and resources. By prioritising Her Health Hero’s educational programs, designed in partnership with leading International and National experts in each of the health disciplines, schools can build a healthier, more resilient community and enhance lifelong satisfaction and success.
Supporting teens to upskill their health education has far-reaching benefits. By providing accurate information and resources, schools can help teens via:
Stronger Culture – Supportive environments that foster well-being led to greater engagement and attendance. Additionally, girls are less likely to miss school due to female health issues, ensuring they do not fall behind academically.
Enhanced self-awareness and self-esteem - Improved understanding and support can help teens feel more confident about their bodies and health, reducing the negative impact on their self-esteem.
Reduced healthcare costs - Educated and supported teens are more likely to seek appropriate medical care both now and in future, potentially lowering healthcare expenses related to untreated symptoms.
Educating teens about these aspects of health helps them understand what they, their fellow students, older family members, and their future selves may experience. This knowledge fosters a culture of empathy and inclusion, strengthening relationships and improving collaboration. Students benefit from greater understanding, support, and advocacy, ensuring a more engaged and motivated community.
Advocating for specialist health education sessions foster a more inclusive and supportive school culture. It demonstrates a commitment to student well-being and gender equality, which can enhance the school's reputation and create a positive learning environment. Additionally, by normalising discussions about female health, schools can create a supportive environment where girls feel valued and understood.
